An inkling of an idea began on a rainy garden afternoon in 1995 with a demure Venus de Milo figure sporting two snails—her defiant fashion statement for the day. The juxtaposition of lovely and creepy created an attractive mystique. Made me want to hang around and see what would happen next. Sixteen years later the name “De Milo Design” still seems to fit as I continue to find interesting juxtapositions of vintage letterpress printing, new papers, and modern design. Within this mix lives a desire to connect with other creative women around the world—joining my materials with theirs to see what comes. Sustain & Heal, developed by De Milo in 2007, is a line of fair trade certified and eco-friendly papers and products that marries our many and varied artistic talents. It's great fun and keeps me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what will happen next!
