LETTERPRESS INK COLORS
De Milo keeps a collection of stock ink colors. Below are screen approximations. Pre-printed stock color swatches are available by request when invitation samples are ordered. Custom Pantone® colors may also be specified (refer to Pantone uncoated guide). Clear varnish, florescent, glow-in-the-dark, and other specialty inks also available.
FOIL STAMPING COLORS
We stock dozens of shiny and matte foils that work for a variety of applications—paper, ribbon, napkins, leather, wood, and even mylar ballons.
CUSTOM COLOR MATCHING
It is helpful to keep in mind that color swatches, whether letterpress printed, on screen (especially on screen), or in a Pantone® book are a guide and not neccessarily an exact match (even the folks at Pantone® say their swatchbooks differ from run to run). Even so, matching IS important. It’s what makes the finished pieces and parts of one project gel together. And after eighteen years of ink mixing De Milo is really good at it. If you’re matching something like ribbon or another printed piece send a swatch for reference while on press.
A NOTE ABOUT SOY INK
Common complaints about soy is that it dries too quickly on press, is difficult to clean up, and doesn't give good coverage. De Milo doesn’t mind a little extra elbow grease and hasn’t found coverage to be a problem. De Milo mostly uses soy ink (from domestically grown soy, so we’re not clearing rain forests) as a symbolic way to “keep our eye on the ball” because we always need to be reminded that eco habits should be a priority. We also clean our presses with earth-friendly mineral oil and Simple Green®.
Stock Metallic Inks
They aren't really shiny like foil stamping when printed on uncoated stock. Just a slight bit of sparkle.
